The founders of Nica Family Support have lived and worked in Nicaragua. Naturally, the deteriorating political situation caught our attention and discouraged us, as it does any person of morals and compassion. But, our personal involvement with some of the organizations closed down and acquaintance with one of the prisoners makes the situation all the more real to us. It called us to action.
For example, former Minister of Health Dora Maria Tellez, has lived a life of service. (Read about her astonishing life at Health for all Now! 1. Wikipedia 2, and an interview after she was released 3..) One NFS member worked in a Ministry of Health hospital as a midwife over 30 years ago, when Tellez served as the Minister of Health. Tellez' imprisonment spurred the midwife to open an NFS Facebook page and this website, and get to work.
